The device supports nine standard data channels, including Captions 1 through 4 (CC1-CC4), Text modes 1 through 4 (T1 through T4), and Extended Data Services (XDS). These various operating modes can be easily selected from the menu displayed on the monitor screen. The 812-OPJ is equipped with a complementary differential input amplifier, ensuring high common mode rejection. Its phase-linear keyer seamlessly inserts decoded characters into the video image, with differential gain and phase within 0.1% and 0.1deg respectively. The Source ID function of the 812-OPJ can add up to 13 lines of alphanumeric characters (at 16 characters/line) to its video input signal. This can be done using an RS-232 interface or a simple two-button front panel menu. As a Closed Caption Decoder, the 812-OPJ can monitor any of the standard Line 21 data channels (CC1, CC2, XDS) and produce a decoded character output. As a Program Ratings Monitor, it can extract the Line 21 XDS data carrying the "content advisory" (V-Chip) information and display an appropriate ratings "icon". The device supports both NTSC and PAL video standards, and its three input/output BNCs can be configured as a looping input pair with one output or as a single terminating input with two outputs. The Source ID function also features EEPROM storage for up to 16 messages with a remarkable 10-year data retention.
