The foam filters have been designed to improve airflow and horsepower, offering a crisper throttle response and superior performance for improved acceleration and greater driving enjoyment.Pipercross has completely redesigned its Plus filter range to improve its existing replacement elements' performance and build quality. By improving the filtration quality at the same time as making them more rigid, these Plus filters are stronger and retain their shape better under increased flow rates, typically 100s of CFM (cubic feet per minute) seen from high-performance and modified engines. The engineers took the current foam filter, removed the internal mesh structure and replaced it with a 1mm steel frame, that not only increases the strength and durability of the filter but increases the filter's flow area by an additional 22%.The filter medium has also received an upgrade. Using a dual-layer construction the engineers have optimised airflow and filtration properties through rigorous research and testing processes. Optimised for filtration and flow the engineers opted for a 20mm thick 20 PPI foam layer that is freer-flowing and captures larger contaminant/dirt particles and a 5mm thick 60 PPI foam layer to catch finer contaminants and offers improved engine protection without compromising on the outstanding airflow performance.As airborne dirt particles are trapped by paper air filters, there is a dramatic increase in pressure drop which essentially robs the engine of airflow and power. Due to the deep foam construction of each Pipercross air filter, airflow can negotiate trapped dirt. Air filter service intervals are extended with the Pipercross panel filter, with a lifespan between cleaning of double that of the same paper filter. By simply cleaning and refitting the Pipercross panel filter, there is less waste and service costs are reduced.
