The Calliope mini is a microcontroller that is used as a teaching tool in school education for children from the third grade upwards, usually under adult supervision.
The Calliope mini shows that everyone can code - and with a lot of fun. It's easy to get started, so kids, teachers* and parents can get started without any prior knowledge. From the first self-programmed blink to self-driving robots to wirelessly communicating Calliope mini swarms: with just a few clicks, users can design their own programs for the microprocessor on a connected computer, bringing the Calliope mini to life.

In addition to 25 red LEDs, one RGB LED and two programmable buttons, the board contains a combined position sensor with motion sensor and compass, as well as a wireless module that allows Calliope mini to communicate with other Calliope mini. The board can be
via laptop or computer using free editors, e.g. Open Roberta Lab from the Fraunhofer Gesellschaft. Self-created programs can also be transferred wirelessly via an app. The board is supplied with five pre-installed programs, the use of which is explained in a small accompanying booklet. Battery holders with high-quality batteries and a USB cable for connection to the computer are also included.

With the Calliope mini V3, in addition to an improved processor architecture, additional and improved connectivity options have been added. There is a USB-C connector and additionally the pin header can be used directly with jumper cables or expansion boards. With Jacdac, another connector with reverse polarity protection is integrated. Thus, actuators and sensors can be connected in series and directly exchanged with a connected computer via WebUSB, for example.

The Calliope mini thus becomes not only the first teaching tool for learning programming, but also a digital circle for everyday school life!
