This also means that you don't have to protect this item from fire with a layer of sand because the steel we use is thick enough to offer natural protection. Low maintenance: As previously mentioned the thickness of the steel offers natural protection all year round but it is recommended to ensure the gap around the raised disc at the bottom of the bowl does not become blocked to ensure that rainwater doesn't collect. You do also have the option to clean this item with a wire brush and apply oil to the surface but personally we feel that the natural ageing process is by far the best route to take!
