Avoid applying the concealer only to the dark circles - this will only emphasise the part you are trying to hide, instead, blend it carefully across the whole under-eye area. For a more youthful and awake appearance, apply the concealer to the inner eye corner and under the outer eye corner. This will optically brighten the area and give a more lifted eye look.
