Na de tragische dood van prins Lucerys Velaryon door toedoen van prins Aemond Targaryen in seizoen 1 van 'House of the Dragon' is de familie Targaryen diep verdeeld. Aan de ene kant wil Rhaenyra Targaryen, gekroond tot koningin van Dragonstone, de IJzeren Troon terugwinnen. Seizoen 2 zal in het teken staan van de oorlog die bekend staat als 'The Dance of the Dragons', een conflict tussen de twee takken van de Targaryen-dynastie, de Blacks en de Greens.
